We had seen before in the explanation of temporary adjectives with the verb –ESTAR-, these two adjectives –OPEN and CLOSED– that we have used in the previous lesson with time expressions. Of course, there is no need to tell time when using them, so, in this post, we are going to review and refresh our minds with this expression that can be very useful in communication terms.
As we said, –To Be open– or –To Be closed-, it is a temporary action, which will take us to the temporary verb –ESTAR-:
EL CINE ESTÁ ABIERTO
THE CINEMA IS OPEN
→ Note:
- ESTÁ, is the verb temporary -ESTAR- and it is used because we are referring to a temporary action. The cinema can be opened and can be closed as we had explained and it is conjugated in 3rd person singular -EL CINE ESTÁ- (The cinema is).
- ABIERTO, is a masculine/singular adjective as refers to – CINE – and this is a masculine/singular noun.
EL CINE ESTÁ CERRADO
THE CINEMA IS CLOSED
