First of all, to start this post, we are going to learn vocabulary about the most important places that we have in a city. Whether it is a  supermarket, a park, a house…

◊ Note:

  1. PISO is a noun that refers to several things. Can be CONDO, FLAT and also FLOOR. In South American Spanish, it even refers to GROUND. We are going to use it as a CONDO, FLAT OR FLOOR but not as a GROUND.
  2. ESTACIÓN DE AUTOBÚS applies changing  the BUS to TREN (Train), TAXI (Taxi) to any other Station. ESTACIÓN DE AUTOBÚS, ESTACIÓN DE TREN or ESTACIÓN DE TAXI for instance.

The use of HAY in my city

Once we have seen vocabulary about places in a city, we can already start using the verb form HAY to describe the things that we have around us:

¿QUÉ HAY EN BARCELONA?

WHAT IS THERE IN BARCELONA?

(Adding info about the place):

EN BARCELONA HAY UN AEROPUERTO

IN BARCELONA THERE IS AN AIRPORT

(Without giving information about where the place is):

HAY UN AEROPUERTO

THERE IS AN AIRPORT

WHAT IS THERE IN BARCELONA?

(Adding info about the place):

EN BARCELONA HAY MUCHOS EDIFICIOS

IN BARCELONA THERE ARE MANY BUILDINGS

(Without giving information about where the place is):

HAY MUCHOS EDIFICIOS

THERE ARE MANY BUILDINGS
