It is time to give the tools to tell the exact location. For instance, in English: to the right, inside, between…Let’s review first the previous lesson:

We did see already the preposition EN, that as has been explained as AT, ON and IN…Here it comes the most useful ones:

DENTRO DE – INSIDE OF
DEBAJO DE – UNDER OF
DETRÁS DE – BEHIND OF
FRENTE DE – IN FRONT OF
DELANTE DE – IN FRONT OF
A LA DERECHA DE – TO THE RIGHT OF
A LA IZQUIERDA DE – TO THE LEFT OF
AL LADO DE – TO THE SIDE OF
LEJOS DE – FAR FROM
CERCA DE – NEAR FROM
ENTRE – BETWEEN

♣ Note:
- EN, as has been said, is the prepositions AT, ON and IN.
- DE; we do use the preposition OF in most of our location expressions to tell a reference point of the thing or person that we are giving the location of. BARCELONA ESTÁ DENTRO DE EUROPA ⇒ BARCELONA IS INSIDE OF EUROPE
- A; this is a new preposition that in English is the preposition of direction TO. Further on, we will see that it can also be used in another context. A LA DERECHA DE ⇒ TO THE RIGHT OF
- EN FRENTE DE, as we have shown, means IN FRONT OF.
- DELANTE DE, also means IN FRONT OF.
- AL; as it was the first time that we have seen the preposition A (To), this is the first time that we also see AL. This word (plus DEL that we will see further on) requires a unique lesson. In a short explanation we’d say that AL means TO THE.
- AL LADO DE means to the side of as it is written above. The meaning is NEXT TO.
- CERCA DE, as we have seen, means near from. The meaning of DE as we know already is OF/FROM and in the English expression we do use FROM, instead OF. CERCA DE ⇒ NEAR FROM.
- LEJOS DE; DE applies exactly in the same way as the explanation given above. The meaning of DE ,as we know already, is OF/FROM and in the English expression we do use FROM, instead OF in this expression. LEJOS DE ⇒ FAR FROM.
