Some people, some person, some persons and somebody in Spanish

It is time to start playing with this first indefinite adjective –SOME– using it with nouns that in communication matters, we do use very often; The  first noun is going to be PERSON in its plural/singular mode – PERSONA, PERSONAS– and PEOPLE -GENTE-.

Remember first the table of the indeterminate adjective SOME:

→ Now is just a matter of adding the right masculine/feminine or singular/plural indefinite adjective to the noun expressed:

ALGUNA PERSONA

SOME PERSON

◊ Note that in this case, we are seeing a singular/feminine noun, therefore, the indefinite adjective will be feminine/singular.

ALGUNAS PERSONAS

SOME PERSONS

◊ Note that in this case, we are seeing a plural/feminine noun, therefore, the indefinite adjective will be feminine/plural.

ALGUNA GENTE

SOME PEOPLE

◊ Note that in this case, GENTE is a feminine noun and even though it has a plural meaning itself, it is a singular noun, therefore, as a  singular/feminine noun,  the indefinite adjective will be feminine/singular.

Now that we have already seen SOME PERSON, SOME PERSONS and SOME PEOPLE, you might wonder what is the difference between the singular mode SOME PERSON and the plural mode SOME PERSONS. 

Well, basically when it is singular –ALGUNA PERSONA– we are referring indeterminately to a small quantity of people, which means that you might refer to a one, two, three persons… It can be that even more, but here we’re trying to express a small indeterminate quantity of people.

When it comes to plural –ALGUNAS PERSONAS-, we are referring indeterminately to a BIGGER quantity of people compared to –ALGUNA PERSONA-; How many? We do not know, that’s why we are using the indeterminate adjectives but for sure that is a bigger  quantity of people than -ALGUNA PERSONA-.

→ ALGUNA GENTE  –SOME PEOPLE– it has the same idea in the idea of quantity as ALGUNAS PERSONAS –SOME PERSONS–

♦ Also, we can use a pronoun that expresses the same as the singular/feminine noun plus the indeterminate adjective –ALGUNA PERSONA-. 

Remember that a pronoun is used to express a noun without having the need of using the noun itself:

The meaning of the pronoun ALGUIEN and ALGUNA PERSONA are exactly the same, so it is up to decide which one you use in your communication.

◊ Note that pronouns do not have singular/plural nor masculine/feminine mode; It will remain without any change as ALGUIEN in order to express SOMEONE.
